Georgia Attorneys: This seminar has been approved by the Georgia Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency of the State Bar of Georgia for mandatory continuing legal education credit in the amount of 6.75 CLE hours, of which 0.0 hours will also apply in the area of ethics, 0.0 hour will apply in trial and 0.0 in professionalism credit. Credit is currently pending. The administrative fee for each attorney will be paid by PESI directly to the commission. Bar number required. PESI reports credit earned.

Faculty

Speaker: Barbara Bowen

Barbara Bowen started her career with the IRS in 1986, collecting delinquent taxes, researching complex tax issues, conducting internal quality control and participating in outreach and education seminars. After passing the Enrolled Agents Exam in 1990, she left the IRS and began working in public accounting representing Taxpayers before the IRS. After obtaining an MPA in Accounting in 1994 and simultaneously passing the CPA exam, Barbara began working in the oil and gas industry in Texas and later relocated to Atlanta to work in the natural gas industry. Following a desire to return to public accounting and work in a tax environment in 1997, she began working for big firms such as Price Waterhouse and PWC, and smaller firms as a tax consultant. In 2003, after working in a number of areas of taxation, including tax compliance, audit representation, corporate and personal income tax, state and local taxation, payroll, sales & use, and estate taxes, Barbara established a small CPA firm specializing in tax representation. She currently represents clients before the IRS and state and local taxing authorities and provides tax, accounting and business consulting services.

Barbara received a BA degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University in 1984 and a MPA in Accounting from Texas Southern University in 1994. She holds a CPA license in Georgia and South Carolina and enrolled to represent taxpayers before the IRS. In her free time she enjoys mentoring with youth and has taught several community college accounting and federal taxation courses. She also volunteers time operating a low income tax clinic.
